Mission and Vision

The Centre Of Excellence for Leather Skills ( PTY ) Ltd was founded by Tony Naidoo and Kishor Harrilal. Our mission is to  facilitate the leather sector with required knowledge and skills for product innovation, quality and compliance. To become a worldwide reputed Center of Excellence in serving the South African Leather/Footware Sector through knowledge and skill development programs. As we are not a coastal city and we have a lack of good roads, we have been unable to attract investment that is essential to develop the region and bring economic prosperity. Opportunities do exist in developing enterprises in the region that can utilize manual skills and create products for which market demand exist. As global production outsourcing to lower cost countries gradually force finely crafted “hand – made” products industries in developed countries to shrink, it is becoming possible to fill market needs for these products with the help of rural workers in developing countries & cities. Therefore by focusing on products that are “hand – made” and are sold at a higher price in developed country markets, the impediments to establishing a production center in rural Richmond can be mitigated and relatively higher cost of transport and other logistics can be absorbed.

Our Core Modules

• NQF Machine Operations (Footwear) Level 1 & 2

• Soft Skill -are a combination of interpersonal people skills, social skills, communication skills, character traits, attitudes, career attributes and emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) among others

• Designing & Pattern Making

• Compliance Audit & Consultancy

• National Certificate: Clothing, Textile, Footwear and Leather Manufacturing Processes accredited by FP&M-SETA

Objective

Through skilling our learners, we can ensure that all products made can be exported or kept within SA. We can also assure market demand and operate a sustainable production & learning center in Richmond once learners have been qualified. This will provide steady employment to women and men who never held a job before. Our main objectives are:-

• To provide skills development services to the footwear and leather sectors

• To implement the objectives of the FP&M-SETA

• To ensure that people obtain the critical or scarce skills that are needed to build the capacity of the sector to become economically sustainable and globally competitive.

• Development of socio-economic infrastructure which includes setting up of rural schools pertaining to the upskilling of the footwear industry.

• Development of Human resource mobilization
